Veteran frontcourt enforcer Beau Belga will stay with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters after the franchise inked him to a one-year contract extension announced on Jan. 19, 2026.
Belga’s extended tenure with the young Rain or Shine squad came at the perfect time after Gabe Norwood’s retirement, who officially bade the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) goodbye following the Elasto Painters’ quarterfinal exit in the ongoing All-Filipino Conference.
Without Norwood, Belga will look to step up as the team’s locker-room voice, providing a wealth of experience and leadership to a retooling franchise bannered by up-and-coming standouts like Adrian Nocum, Caelan Tiongson, Jhonard Clarito, Keith Datu, Leonard Santillan, and Andrei Caracut.
After head coach Yeng Guiao’s decision to bring in a youthful pool of future franchise cornerstones, Belga’s playing minutes suddenly dipped, including his scoring and rebounding averages.
Due to the coaching staff’s decision to integrate Datu, Santillan, Tiongson, and Clarito more into the rotation, Belga took a step back and played more of a mentor role during the 2025 PBA season.
Aside from the team’s reshaped approach of moving on to a new core lineup, Belga’s roller-coaster campaign was also caused by an acute vertigo diagnosis, the main reason why he had to sit out the majority of the import-laced conference last year.
Belga took short stops at Purefoods, Burger King, and Meralco before finding a home with Rain or Shine during the 2011 PBA season.
After signing the contract, little did Belga know that he would play for the franchise for 15 consecutive years, embodying loyalty and commitment.
A three-time PBA All-Star wearing the Rain or Shine threads from 2013–2015, Belga helped the Elasto Painters clinch the 2012 PBA Governor’s Cup and the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup.
Although another championship title is yet to be won, Belga, Guiao, and the rest of the Rain or Shine management are confident that the post-Norwood era will be represented well by their young guns.
