beabadoobee drops new album ‘Pylon,’ releases new single

beabadoobee has released her fourth studio album, “Pylon,” alongside the new single “Write Me A Letter,” marking the Filipino-English singer-songwriter’s follow-up to her chart-topping 2024 record “This Is How Tomorrow Moves.”

“Pylon” is available digitally and on CD and vinyl through Dirty Hit and Interscope Records.

The 14-track album was written while beabadoobee, whose real name is Beatrice Laus, was touring in support of “This Is How Tomorrow Moves.”

Her previous album became her first No. 1 on the United Kingdom’s Official Albums Chart in August 2024 after earlier records “Fake It Flowers” and “Beatopia” reached Nos. 8 and 4, respectively. Official Charts

“Pylon” expands into grunge, Midwest emo and 1990s-style alternative rock while retaining the confessional songwriting that has defined Laus’ earlier work.

The album includes the previously released songs “Memories,” “Switchblade” and “Sun Has Set.”

Its latest single, “Write Me A Letter,” features production work from Laus’ longtime collaborators and Dirty Hit labelmates Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975.

Laus said the song is about “seeing my fault in situations, but also admitting things that I would be too embarrassed to say out loud.”

The track emerged from a period in which Laus was writing extensively while moving between tours.

“I had to write these songs on tour or between tours because I had to understand what was going on in my head,” she says.

“It’s this idea of letting go and accepting change. When I was on tour, I was yearning for something, and it made me think: How do I make myself feel comfortable? What does it mean to grow up? I was just missing how things were.”

Much of “Pylon” was written alone in hotel rooms, bringing Laus back to the way she composed songs as a teenager.

She said the experience “reminded me a lot of how I wrote songs at 17, alone in my bedroom, feeling sad as fuck.”

The album features contributions from Hayley Williams, Turnstile singer Brendan Yates, Pinegrove’s Evan Stephens Hall, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno and Title Fight guitarist Shane Moran.

The official track list comprises “Pylon,” “Sun Has Set,” “Estranged,” “Switchblade,” “Write Me A Letter,” “It’s Alright,” “In Motion,” “Memories,” “Nothing to Prove,” “Radio,” “Powerlines,” “Spark,” “Despite That” and “Satellite.”

The record centers on change, uncertainty, relationships and growing older, themes Laus said emerged as she tried to understand her life while constantly on the road.

“Pylon” follows “Fake It Flowers” in 2020, “Beatopia” in 2022 and “This Is How Tomorrow Moves” in 2024 as beabadoobee’s fourth studio album.
