BCPO: No emerging drug group in Bacolod

BACOLOD City – There is nothing to worry.

This was stressed by Police Major Sherlock Gabana, information officer of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), following the series of anti-illegal drug operations here in the past week.

Gabana said the huge volume of suspected shabu amounting to more than P1 million that was recovered last week was mostly part of the old stocks of the arrested individuals.

Alleged drug peddlers are holding on to their stocks because of the pandemic-related lockdowns.

“Ga tago sila siguro sang stocks because of the quarantine status, na basi bala gulpi mag lockdown, may gamiton lang diri sila gihapon na idispose,” he added.

Apart from the old stocks, Gabana said they have also recovered new items in the recent buy-bust operations.

However, he said they could not yet tell the source of these contraband.

“Amo pa na gina-imbestigahan ta sa gihapon,” he added.

Another factor in the series of arrests is poverty because of the pandemic, which forced some individuals to engage in drug peddling.

Despite this, Gabana said there’s no new player in the illegal drug trade here.

In fact, he noted that most of the subjects arrested in the recent operations were already monitored by police through intelligence gathering and information from other arrested personalities.

On August 8, two persons were arrested in a buy-bust operation at Barangay Singcang-Airport, which resulted in the recovery of 27 grams of suspected shabu worth P183,600.

Gabana said the big drug haul is not a cause of concern, adding that it only means that the BCPO is doing its part in the war against illegal drugs.

He said the BCPO will even intensify its operations against illegal drugs in the coming months.
