BCPO nabs 60 persons for gun ban

BACOLOD City – Sixty persons were arrested here for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban from January 13 to June 12, 2019.
Police Major Lester Leada, operations branch chief of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said all arrested persons were charged for Comelec gun ban violation and illegal possession of firearms.
A total of 43,133 operations were conducted against loose firearms during the election period which ended yesterday.
Of the total number, the BCPO conducted 4,726 checkpoint operations; 3,187 operations under “Oplan Sita”; 3,294 under “Oplan Bakal”; 1,569 under “Oplan Galugad”; 1,612 under “Oplan Bulabog”; 15,920 mobile patrol operations; and 12,825 beat patrol operations.
“Oplan Sita” is when police conduct a checkpoint in strategic areas, while “Oplan Bakal” is the implementation of the search warrant, and service of the arrest warrant.
“Oplan Bulabog,” refers to random inspections in communities to flush out the criminals.
Leada said 41 firearms were confiscated, which include one long firearm, 22 short firearms, and 18 homemade guns.
The BCPO also seized two explosives.
