BCPO intensifies monitoring against fake money

BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has intensified its monitoring against fake money following reports of counterfeit paper bills circulating in Libertad Public Market.
Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez posted photos of the fake bills on his Facebook page after the issue was brought to his attention last Saturday.
Based on the mayor’s Facebook post, a market supervisor found a wallet in the market containing fake P500 bills.
The market supervisor reported several complaints from vendors about fake money being used to purchase goods.
In response, Benitez directed the BCPO to investigate the matter.
The BCPO is urging victims to report incidents to the nearest police station to help determine the extent of the production and circulation of the fake bills, which are believed to be part of a syndicate operation.
The fake bills will be turned over to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Benitez stated that, in addition to police efforts, the city government will take measures to monitor the situation. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious.
