Bataan is set to make history again—this time through sportsmanship and endurance—as it hosts the inaugural 5150 FAB Triathlon on Nov. 16.
The event aims to position the province as a premier triathlon destination in the Philippines.
Once known for its pivotal role in World War II through the Battle of Bataan and the Bataan Death March, the province now shifts from a legacy of sacrifice to one of strength and resilience in sports.
Organized by Sunrise Events Inc., the 5150 FAB Triathlon will bring athletes from across the region and beyond to compete in the Olympic distance race: a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike ride and 10-kilometer run.
The race was officially launched at a recent press conference led by Hussein Pangandaman, administrator and CEO of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan.
He promised an unforgettable experience for both athletes and spectators.
“The 5150 FAB Triathlon reflects our strong belief in the Freeport’s capacity to become a hub for world-class sporting events,” Pangandaman said.
“It’s an opportunity to showcase not just our world-class facilities, but also Bataan’s stunning coastal landscapes and the indomitable community spirit that defines our people.”
Registration is now open.

More than a race, Pangandaman emphasized the triathlon’s broader economic and cultural impact.
“This triathlon is a catalyst for economic activity and tourism growth in Bataan,” he said.
“It’s a springboard to our goal of becoming a top-tier sports tourism destination.”
With its mix of challenging terrain, scenic sea and mountain views, and solid infrastructure, Mariveles and the Freeport Area of Bataan are emerging as serious contenders to rival venues like Subic, Puerto Princesa and Cebu.
Unlike crowded city races, the 5150 FAB Triathlon offers open roads, clean air and coastal vistas that provide both a physical challenge and a scenic journey.
Mariveles’ natural elevation changes and technical bike segments offer a demanding course, while its calm peninsula waters make for a fast but safe swim start.
