BACOLOD CITY — Barangays 12 and Granada topped the street and arena dance competitions of this year’s Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival (BCIF), held at Megaworld Upper East on May 30.
In the festival street dance competition, Barangay 12, representing Malaysia, was named grand champion. Barangay Granada, representing Timor-Leste, placed first, while Barangay Estefania, representing Brunei, placed second.
In the festival arena dance competition, Barangay Granada was named grand winner. Barangay 12 placed first, and Barangay Tangub, representing Thailand, placed second.
Seven barangays participated in the competition, each representing a different ASEAN country, creatively fusing their chicken inasal story interpretations with the culture, rhythm, and spirit of their assigned nation.
In the cook-off competition’s barangay category, Barangay Mandalagan, representing Timor-Leste, was hailed champion. Barangay 12, representing Malaysia, placed second, and Barangay Banago, representing Myanmar, placed third.
In the school category, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) United Chefs Society claimed the top spot. Culinary Arts of First Academy, representing Indonesia, placed second, while USLS Center for Life Skills, representing Timor-Leste, placed third.
The cook-off aims to showcase creative culinary skills while preserving the integrity of authentic chicken inasal.
Now in its sixth edition, this year’s festival carried the theme “Inasal City,” highlighting Bacolod’s world-famous chicken inasal and rich cultural heritage.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) deployed 442 officers, augmented by 41 additional personnel, across the three-day event from May 29 to 31.
