BACOLOD CITY — A 48-year-old barangay official was injured after he was allegedly stabbed by a 38-year-old laborer, who was also injured after he was shot by a security guard, in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.
Based on a police investigation, Barangay Kagawad Rex (a village councilor) responded to a call for assistance at a mountain resort, along with a barangay tanod, to verify the report.
When they arrived, they observed the suspect, identified as “Paking,” acting uneasily and armed with a bladed weapon.
They approached the suspect, but Paking allegedly drew an ice pick and stabbed the barangay official.
A security guard on duty, who witnessed the incident, allegedly fired at the suspect, hitting his right arm.
Both the victim and the suspect were brought to a hospital.
Police Capt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said the kagawad filed a complaint for disobedience and resistance to a person in authority, and he said the prosecutor will determine the liability of the security guard.
Gasataya said the suspect became violent due to drunkenness, and he added the victim was discharged from the hospital while the suspect is recuperating.
