A village official was arrested after a firearm raid on his house in Sapian, Capiz morning of July 4.
Barangay Kagawad Vergelio Peralta of Dapdapan village was collared in a search and seizure operation around 7:46 a.m. on Tuesday.
Members of Sapian Municipal Police Station and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Capiz Field Unit led the operation on the strength of Search Warrant No. 24-07-2023 for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Judge Judith D. Orendain-Tonogbanua of the 6th Regional Trial Court Branch 20 in Mambusao, Capiz issued the search warrant on July 3, 2023.
Police recovered a caliber .45 pistol (serial no. 579112) with a magazine loaded with five ammunition, an ampere shell, and a black holster.
Staff Sergeant Louie Banate, Sapian police investigator, said there were no complaints against Peralta for brandishing a firearm or indiscriminate firing.
But CIDG operatives received reports that he was allegedly keeping an unlicensed firearm.
Banate said that Peralta had no previous criminal arrest. He was also not on the police watchlist for illegal drug trade.
Peralta is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act 2013).
