Bar owner’s killing could be business-related – police

BACOLOD CITY — The death of a bar owner in Barangay Estefania last Thursday is being investigated by local police for possible business connections.

Police Captain Francis Depasucat, commander of Police Station 4, mentioned that Elson Cepeda, the victim, was involved in a vehicle buy-and-sell enterprise alongside his bar ownership.

“The victim’s wife has not indicated that her husband had known enemies or had received threats,” said Depasucat, indicating a gap in leads due to the family’s bereavement.

Depasucat pointed out, “Out of respect for their mourning period, we are limiting our inquiries with the family.”

Cepeda was targeted by two unidentified assailants as he was about to enter his SUV outside a convenience store. His wife, present during the attack, escaped harm.

The incident was recorded on CCTV near the barangay hall, footage which authorities hope will become pivotal in the investigation once enhanced for clearer details of the suspects’ vehicle and potential identification of the assailants.

While unable to confirm if the attack involved hired gunmen, Depasucat disclosed the recovery of over ten bullet casings at the scene.

He said they are waiting for the official report from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO). They are still exploring other possible angles, as investigation is ongoing.
