ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ — A treasurer of the Barangay Power Association (BAPA) in Barangay East Villaflores, Maayon, Capiz, who claimed she was held up by two unidentified suspects, was found to have PHP 103,000 in unremitted collections to the Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) last week.
CAPELCO General Manager Engr. Edgar Diaz said that before the alleged holdup on Dec. 5, his office had issued a 48-hour warning notice to alias Maricel, the BAPA treasurer of Barangay East Villaflores, directing her to settle the discrepancy in her recorded collections.
Diaz said the collected amounts did not match CAPELCO’s records of those who paid and those who had not, prompting verification to ensure accurate accounting.
Police are also investigating the reported robbery involving the couple who collected electric bill payments for CAPELCO in Maayon.
The alleged incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 5, 2025, at Sitio Silab, Barangay Batabat, while the couple was on their way to remit the collections to the CAPELCO office.
Alias “Maricel”, 48, was with her husband, alias “Dodoy”, on a motorcycle when two masked men on another motorcycle were said to have blocked their path.
The victims told police the suspects, wearing jackets and bonnets, declared a holdup and took a bag containing PHP 100,000, including PHP 14,000 of their personal money.
Maayon police chief Capt. Danilo Lauron said the victims reported that the suspects fled in an unknown direction after the robbery.
Investigators are working to verify the couple’s statements and are pursuing leads to identify the perpetrators.
Daily Guardian attempted to reach alias Maricel for comment, but she was unavailable as of this writing.
