The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo Provincial Office has expanded bamboo-based livelihood opportunities in the municipality of Maasin through the launch of a Shared Service Facility (SSF) on bamboo processing.
The initiative aims to improve productivity, enhance product quality, and strengthen the skills of local bamboo artisans and furniture makers.
With a total project cost of PHP 917,000, the SSF will operate in two locations in Maasin—Barangay Mandog and Barangay Bolo.
The facilities are equipped with key machinery to support various stages of bamboo processing and furniture production.
These include pole cutters, bamboo splitters, electric drills, a miter saw, a planer, and a metalworking table with accessories, enabling beneficiaries to transform raw bamboo into value-added products more efficiently.
Primary beneficiaries include the Maasin Bamboo Association, Maasin KAPAWA, and other local bamboo craft and furniture makers.
The SSF is expected to reduce production costs, improve craftsmanship, and boost the competitiveness of Maasin’s bamboo products in local and regional markets.
The project was formally presented in the presence of Maasin Mayor Francis A. Amboy, representatives from the beneficiary barangays, and officials from the DTI Iloilo Provincial Office, led by Officer-in-Charge Provincial Director Ma. Dorita D. Chavez.
DTI Iloilo Supervising Trade-Industry Development Specialist, Engr. Jonathan T. Tejida provided technical guidance on the proper use of the equipment.
The bamboo processing SSF supports the DTI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen micro, small, and medium enterprises by improving access to modern tools, encouraging innovation, and promoting sustainable livelihood development.
Through this initiative, Maasin is well-positioned to grow its bamboo industry while empowering local producers and craftsmen.
