Bailes de Luces wins in Korea Dance Carnival

BACOLOD City – Bailes de Luces, the festival dance of  La Castellana, Negros Occidental, won first place in the 2019 Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival in Wonju City, South Korea recently.

La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan told Daily Guardian on Thursday that the dancers were given a rousing welcome by residents when they returned to the town early this week.

Mangilimutan led the festival dancers’ contingent as they showcased the Bailes de Luces festival dance for two days in Wonju, Korea

After the first day, they made it to the Top 15 and eventually won first place in the street dancing festival and was also awarded the gold medal in the Special Category (Foreign).

Mangilimutan also said that this year, Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival had 1,609 dancers from 34 teams in 12 countries, including the Philippines, Russia, Taiwan and Singapore. 8,856 people in 108 teams in Korea.

A total of 142 teams composed of 10,465 dancers participated.

Bailes de Luces, which mean dance of the lights, also ruled the recent Panaad Festival in Negros.
