BACOLOD CITY – A chilling reminder that gossip can be deadly unfolded in Barangay Vista Alegre on Monday, January 13, when a 40-year-old woman was shot and killed by her neighbor, allegedly over rumors.
Police Capt. Dax Santillan, head of Police Station 7, identified the victim as “Jenelyn” and said she and the suspect had ongoing disagreements since last year.
The victim was reportedly accused of spreading stories about her neighbor, which may have angered the suspect.
Santillan declined to disclose further details about the circumstances of the shooting or the motive, citing the pending filing of criminal charges.
The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to her back and died in a hospital early the following day.
Her family denied claims that she had been interfering in the suspect’s personal affairs.
