BACOLOD City – Traffic accidents here decreased by 190 cases, or 61.49% in 2020, based on the data from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
A total of 119 road mishaps were recorded from January to December 2020, compared to 309 accidents in 2019.
Twenty-eight cases of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide were recorded last year, less than the 41 incidents in 2019, with a difference of 13 or 31.71%.
The BCPO also reported 74 cases of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries in the past year, with a reduction of 127 cases or 63.18% from 201 cases in 2019.
For reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, the BCPO has noted a drop of 50 cases or 74.63% from 67 in 2019 to 17 in 2020.
Authorities attributed the reduction in traffic accidents to the series of lockdowns implemented since March here due to the pandemic.
Limited private vehicles were only allowed to ply the streets, while the public transportation was suspended for a few months last year.
