Bacolod to intensify campaign vs cable wire theft

BACOLOD City – The city government here has proposed to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to create a task force that will work with the local government in the campaign against cable robbers.

This, after some consumers were affected when the internet connection of a telecommunications firm in the downtown area went down last Thursday following the stealing of cable wires last Wednesday.

Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 1, said that a security guard reported the incident when he saw some individuals allegedly cutting cable wires in the downtown area.

Bonilla said that the stolen cable wires amounting to about P100,000 were recovered by police but the robbers fled.

Atty. Pacifico Maghari III, city administrator, said there is a need to intensify the campaign with the police to prevent the same from happening.

Aside from that, Maghari said that they also need the help of the junk shop owners by reporting individuals who will bring the stolen wires to their shops.

He stressed that there should be close monitoring in all junk shops.

“Kung wala may gabakal, wala man may mangawat,” Maghari said.

With this, he is hoping that they could discourage everyone from doing the same.

Maghari said there is a need to strategize to stop the rampant stealing of cable wires in the city.

He said that police should file cases against the robbers, while telcos will act as complaining witnesses.

The BCPO has already formed Oplan Bantay Kable to focus on tracking individuals who may have the intention to commit such violations.
