BACOLOD CITY — The city government is preparing for the anticipated influx of cemetery visitors during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.
Mayor Greg Gasataya met with concerned government agencies and other stakeholders for a final coordination meeting Monday, Oct. 26, to finalize preparations for a safe and orderly Undas observance in the city.
Private cemetery administrators and barangay officials from Granada and Handumanan were directed to coordinate measures for public safety, traffic management, security and emergency response.
During the meeting, officials discussed traffic rerouting and road closures to be implemented in designated areas to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and pedestrians.
Cemetery visiting hours will be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2.
Drinking alcohol and gambling will be prohibited during the observance.
The public was reminded to follow cemetery rules, observe traffic advisories and cooperate with authorities and personnel on the ground to help ensure a safe and peaceful Undas.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) also reminded the public to avoid bringing unnecessary valuables, using cellphones while walking, drinking alcohol and engaging in unsafe or unruly behavior.
“As we remember and honor our departed loved ones this Undas, let us prioritize the safety and security of every family,” the BCPO stated in its advisory.
Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) will deploy 3,119 security personnel across the region from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3 to maintain peace and order during the holiday period.
The deployment includes 1,773 police officers, 340 personnel from other units and 1,006 force multipliers.
Security personnel will be stationed at cemeteries, columbaria, places of worship, major roads, transportation terminals and other areas expected to attract large crowds.
Police assistance desks will also be established at designated cemeteries and columbaria to respond to visitors’ concerns and provide immediate assistance.
The city government has also prepared cleanup operations and designated vending areas around public cemeteries to help manage the expected increase in visitors.
Residents needing emergency assistance may contact 911, while other concerns may be directed to the Bacolod City Government at (034) 479-6100.
