BACOLOD CITY – The city government has installed solar power systems at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) and 16 of its 61 barangays as part of its push for sustainable energy.
The combined capacity of the solar projects is 1,340 KW, with each barangay expected to cut energy costs by about 50 percent. The initiative is anticipated to generate annual energy savings of approximately PHP 14,974,252.32.
The largest solar installation is at the BCGC, with a capacity of 400 KW. City Engineer Loben Ceballos reported that solar power systems have also been installed at the following locations:
- Barangay Alijis (40 KW)
- Barangay Taculing/Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office/gymnasium (150 KW)
- Barangay Granada/public market (80 KW)
- Barangay Villamonte/gymnasium (50 KW)
- Barangay Vista Alegre/Progresso Village/evacuation center/youth home (120 KW)
- Barangay Singcang-Airport (40 KW)
- Barangay Tangub (40 KW)
- Barangay Estefania (40 KW)
- Barangay Pahanocoy (40 KW)
- Barangay 16 (Rizal Elementary School) (40 KW)
- Barangay Handumanan (40 KW)
- Barangay Punta Taytay (40 KW)
- Barangay Cabug (40 KW)
- Barangay Felisa (40 KW)
- Barangay Sum-ag/Barangay Hall/public market (140 KW).
These initiatives not only reduce energy costs but also support Bacolod’s commitment to renewable energy and lowering its carbon footprint.
The city government emphasized that the projects align with its goals of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
