BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) reported 4,355 recoveries, or 91.47 percent recovery rate, among the 4,761 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases here in the past eight months.
In fact, only one case was recorded last October 27, the lowest in a single day since July.
“It’s a good progress. The daily cases are now lowering,” said retired Major General Mel Feliciano, deputy chief implementer of Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF)-Visayas.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Feliciano said that four weeks ago, the city logged an average of 50 new cases daily before it plunged to 25 two weeks later. This week, it recorded less than 15 cases a day.
Feliciano attributed the reduction of COVID cases here to the Bacolod City Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF).
Feliciano said that he is confident that COVID cases here will remain stable even when he leaves Bacolod.
“I am confident that Bacolod can hold on to whatever situation,” he said.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the figures attest to the success of the city’s strengthened measures in the fight against COVID-19.
“There was really a system. There were things that we did that resulted to this,” he added.
Despite the reduction in COVID cases in the past weeks, he stressed that they cannot afford to be complacent.
In fact, the city has deployed more than 300 contact tracers to further intensify its COVID fight to locate possible carriers of the virus.
Meanwhile, Leonardia thanked Feliciano and his team for their support, dedication, commitment, and productive presence in Bacolod to help in the COVID fight.
