BACOLOD CITY — A 63-year-old woman died and her 73-year-old husband was injured after they were hit by an allegedly speeding motorcycle along Lacson Street early Thursday.
Killed in the accident was Rosita, a resident of Barangay Pasil, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.
Her husband, Genaro, sustained minor injuries.
Police Maj. Elmer Bonilla, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit, said the couple had come from Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and were crossing the street when the accident happened at 3:41 a.m.
CLMMRH is a government tertiary hospital located along Lacson Street in Bacolod City.
Police said Rosita hit her head on the ground, causing her immediate death.
Witnesses told police that Rosita had reportedly just been discharged from the hospital when the accident happened.
However, Bonilla said police could not confirm the information because they have yet to speak with the couple’s family.
Bonilla said the motorcycle was driven by Zyrll, 24, of Barangay 9, with John, 32, of Barangay 12, as his passenger.
Bonilla said the two were reportedly intoxicated after authorities smelled alcohol at the scene.
The two motorcycle riders also sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital, along with Genaro.
Bonilla said the motorcycle driver’s family has expressed willingness to extend assistance to the couple’s family.
