BACOLOD CITY — Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya issued a public appeal Monday urging residents not to spread false information or lies, particularly regarding class suspensions.
The appeal came after messages circulated in various group chats falsely announcing a suspension of classes on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Some local media outlets also reported the suspension, further fueling confusion.
In response, Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Marty Go clarified that the city had not issued any official suspension of classes.
He said the latest 5 a.m. update from PAGASA did not meet the threshold for class suspension under current Department of Education guidelines.
“However, parents or guardians may decide whether to send their children to school based on safety and welfare considerations,” Go added. “Stay safe, Bacolod.”
“Malooy kita sang mga kabataan (Pity the children),” Gasataya said during the press conference.
He also addressed those spreading misinformation, saying, “Nanamian kamo ya, aga pa mag-OA gua fake news, indi niyo lang ya pagpasalaha ang mga ginikanan kag kabataan.”
(You seem to enjoy spreading fake news early in the morning — don’t punish the parents and the children for it.)
“You can do it to me — not to them,” the mayor said.
