BACOLOD CITY – A resident suffered serious electrical burns after accidentally touching a high-voltage power line while installing an internet cable himself on May 14.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in Purok Malipayon, Barangay 35, and serves as a reminder of the dangers of working near electrical lines without proper training.
The male victim, whose name was withheld upon request, was trying to set up a Wi-Fi cable for a computer shop on Rodriguez Avenue.
He used a plastic bottle as a weight to guide the cable across the street.
The bottle struck a primary electrical line, causing electrical burns to the man’s right hand.
He was rushed to a regional hospital for treatment.
Local residents said the man was not a trained telecommunications technician.
