BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) has recorded 61 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) as of July 5, with most cases concentrated in 12 barangays.
Barangay Villamonte logged the highest number of cases with 10, followed by Barangay Estefania with eight.
Barangay Mansilingan recorded six cases, while Singcang-Airport and Tangub each registered five.
Barangay Granada followed with four cases.
Other affected areas include Alijis and Vista Alegre with three cases each, and Banago, Cabug, Mandalagan, and Bata with two cases each.
Children aged 1 to 10 accounted for 48 of the total cases, with 25 females and 23 males.
No fatalities have been reported.
HFMD primarily affects children under five but can also occur in older individuals.
It is highly contagious and commonly causes fever, mouth sores, and skin rashes, though it is usually mild.
The CHO urged residents to maintain good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing and regular disinfection.
Health officials also advised seeking medical attention at the first signs of symptoms.
