BACOLOD CITY — Mayor Greg Gasataya affirmed the city’s commitment to aligning with the national government’s priorities outlined in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In a Facebook post, Gasataya said the city will continue implementing programs focused on public spaces, healthcare, sports, digitization, peace and order, and disaster preparedness.
Gasataya, who witnessed the President’s SONA in Manila on Monday, said city officials are inspired to know that their efforts in this highly urbanized city align with the direction of the current administration.
He noted that Bacolod has already initiated several key programs mentioned in the SONA and will pursue them with firm resolve, knowing they contribute to a broader national vision.
“The President’s call for unity, compassion and shared responsibility resonates deeply with us. We answer that call with open hearts — because in Bacolod, we are stronger together,” the mayor stated.
Vice Mayor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, Councilors Caesar Distrito, Jude Thaddeus Sayson and Celia Flor, along with some barangay officials, were also present during the SONA.
Speaking with the media after the event, Puentevella said the President covered a wide range of topics, from healthcare to the Love Bus and flood control programs.
“We can see that he is doing his part over the last three years, and we hope that by the end of his term, these will be fully realized as part of his legacy to the Filipino people,” he added.
Distrito commended the SONA for its sincerity and depth.
“It came from the heart,” he said, adding that the President addressed the concerns of ordinary citizens, including healthcare, inflation, corruption and quality education.
“I think the SONA is comprehensive,” he said.
Sayson expressed optimism that the President will implement stricter flood control measures, calling it an urgent concern following recent typhoons.
“He seems serious about rolling out programs that can serve the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Flor rated the President’s SONA a “seven out of ten,” appreciating its focus on ordinary citizens, children and marginalized sectors.
“Those parts struck me the most,” she said.
