BACOLOD CITY – Councilor Al Espino’s office has launched a spay and neuter program named “Libre Kapon” in an effort to manage the city’s stray dog and cat population, currently estimated at 100,000 by the PAWSsion Project.
The PAWSsion Project stated that through sterilization, they aim to tackle the challenges posed by stray overpopulation and improve animal welfare within the community.
“While rescuing is important and life-saving, the fact remains that we will never be able to rescue all,” said the group in a statement on Facebook.
In collaboration with Cebu DVM Warriors, a group of volunteer veterinarians, the initiative successfully performed procedures on over 100 dogs and cats at the Barangay Villamonte gymnasium last Friday.
The group expressed their deep gratitude for Espino’s initiative and the team of vets who journeyed from Cebu, Dumaguete, and Singapore to support the cause.
Espino acknowledged the community’s responsible pet owners and the contributors who turned the program into a reality.
He hopes that “Libre Kapon” will encourage more people to engage in animal rescue efforts.
