BACOLOD CITY — A first-of-its-kind outdoor sports facility featuring a glasshouse-inspired design and integrated retail hubs will rise in Megaworld’s The Upper East township, supporting Bacolod City’s push to become the sports capital of the Negros Island Region.
Set to open in 2026, The Yard will feature a 3,290-square-meter multipurpose recreational space that can be configured as a full-size basketball, volleyball, or pickleball court.
The space can also be converted into an open area for training sessions, outdoor workouts, and community activities.
The facility will include fenced perimeters and sheltered bleachers designed to accommodate spectators during sports events, tournaments, and large-scale gatherings.
Surrounding the main court, four curved-roof glasshouses will house a curated mix of dining establishments, food and beverage outlets, and retail shops offering fitness and lifestyle products.
The glasshouses will be connected to the main court and other amenities through shaded walkways, complemented by ample parking and open pedestrian pathways.
“We believe wellness should be accessible, enjoyable, and part of daily life,” said Marnelli Gemarino, owner of The Yard.
“Our goal is to create a space where people feel motivated to move, inspired to connect, and empowered to improve their well-being,” Gemarino said.
“We chose The Upper East for its wide-open spaces and welcoming ambience—an environment that reflects the calm, discipline, and thoughtful planning we value,” she added.
The development is expected to support the city government’s efforts to expand Bacolod’s sports tourism sector, which is a key component of its broader development agenda.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez has previously said Bacolod’s bid to become a major sports tourism hub is gaining momentum with the addition of venues capable of hosting large-scale athletic events.
Developments such as The Yard reinforce this vision by offering modern, community-oriented spaces that support both recreational and competitive activities.
“We are proud to welcome another innovative destination for our fellow Bacolodnons and neighboring communities,” said Christine Yusingco, general manager for Bacolod of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.
“This is one of many developments coming to our township as we continue to elevate our offerings and support Bacolod’s growth as a premier business hub—and now, a sports tourism hotbed,” Yusingco added.
The Upper East is Megaworld’s 34-hectare master-planned township built on the former site of the Bacolod-Murcia Milling Co.
The township is home to upscale residential developments such as One Regis, Two Regis, and One Manhattan, along with modern office buildings, including No. 1 Upper East Avenue.
It has also emerged as a lifestyle and tourism destination featuring the country’s most beautiful McDonald’s, the Philippines’ largest Landers Superstore, the Upper East House, a growing mix of dining and retail options, and the upcoming 300-room Kingsford Hotel, Megaworld’s first hotel development in Bacolod City.
