BACOLOD CITY — The Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. announced that Mayor Greg Gasataya has given it the go signal to begin preparations for this year’s highly anticipated MassKara Festival, now in its 47th edition.
This came after the festival organizer recently met with Gasataya to present its plans for the festival, slated Oct. 1–18.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to discuss various initiatives and action plans aimed at enhancing this year’s celebration following a comprehensive assessment of last year’s festival.
“We are elated to have been given the go signal and the trust of the Mayor,” BGFI President Rodney Ascalon said, as he expressed gratitude for Gasataya’s continued support and confidence in the organization.
Ascalon said they are excited to further improve this year’s festivities based on the lessons and experiences gained from last year’s celebration.
Gasataya said he is set to meet with members of the City Council to discuss preparations and ensure seamless coordination among travel agencies, hotels, and other stakeholders for the city’s annual festival.
“The impact of last year’s activities was remarkable, including the school street dancing category, which I would definitely recommend retaining in this year’s celebration,” the mayor said.
Gasataya said it is important to finalize the festival schedule, as many hotels have also been inquiring about the final dates.
He said pre-MassKara festivities will officially run from Oct. 1–8, while highlights, including the Streetdance and Arena Competition and Electric MassKara, will take place from Oct. 9–18.
The closing and awarding ceremonies are slated Oct. 25.
He said preparations will continue to ensure that the MassKara Festival 2026 delivers an unforgettable experience for Bacolodnons and visiting tourists.
The MassKara Festival, first held in 1980, is one of Bacolod’s signature annual events and is known for its colorful masks, street dancing, and celebration of the city’s identity as the “City of Smiles.” (Wikipedia)
