Bacolod crimes, traffic accidents down by 5% in 2022

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported a 5.48 percent decrease in crimes and traffic accidents here, with only 1,360 cases in 2022, compared to 1,439 incidents in 2021.

Crimes and traffic accidents in Police Stations 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 decreased, based on data obtained by Daily Guardian from the BCPO.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sherlock Gabana, BCPO public information officer, said the presence of more police on the streets and the filing of cases against the perpetrators resulted in fewer crimes.

He also noted the support provided by the force multipliers and other volunteer organizations in aiding the law enforcers in the anti-criminality campaign here.

Based on the BCPO data, 1,079 criminal incidents were reported last year, a reduction of 78 cases, or 6.74 percent, against 1,157 cases reported in 2021.

For public safety, including traffic accidents, the BCPO recorded a 0.35 percent reduction from 282 cases in 2021 to 281 the following year.

For index crimes or crimes against persons or property, BCPO recorded 260 incidents in 2022, a reduction of 75 cases or 22.38 percent, from 335 incidents in 2021.

For the eight focus crimes, 259 incidents were recorded in 2022, a decrease of 73 incidents, or 21.98 percent, compared to 332 in 2021.

Theft accounted for the highest number of cases with 92; followed by rape (63), murder  (47), robbery (23), physical injury (17), homicide (9), carnapping of motorcycles (6), and carnapping (2).

For non-index crimes or special law violations, 819 cases were reported in 2022 against 822 cases in 2021.
