BACOLOD CITY — A 25-year-old man tagged as a high-value individual was arrested after police seized 2,075 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP 14.1 million during a drug bust in Purok Kamunsil, Barangay 3, on Sunday.
The suspect, identified only as “Waway,” is a resident of Barangay 1 and is listed under the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council, police said.
Police Lt. Richard Legada, assistant team leader of the City Drug Enforcement Unit, said the suspect allegedly began engaging in the illegal drug trade as a runner early this year after his wife gave birth to their third child.
Legada said the suspect reportedly earned PHP 6,000 a week from illegal drug transactions.
The suspect allegedly received instructions from his source through phone calls and delivered the illegal drugs to his downline in different areas of Bacolod, Legada said.
Legada said the suspect was not connected to other drug suspects recently arrested in Bacolod with large volumes of confiscated illegal drugs.
The suspect is detained at Police Station 2 and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In a statement, Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, acting regional director of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, said the operation demonstrated the police force’s determination to disrupt the illegal drug trade by targeting individuals who continue to endanger communities.
Cardiño commended the operating units for another significant accomplishment in the campaign against illegal drugs.
He also vowed to relentlessly pursue drug personalities by strengthening intelligence-driven operations and fostering active community participation.
