Bacolod cops nab 62 curfew violators during Sunday lockdown

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) arrested a total of 62 individuals on Sunday for violating the curfew in relation to the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, BCPO’s public information officer, said Barangay Vista Alegre has the highest number of arrested persons with 48, followed by Mansilingan village with six persons, Barangay 2 with four, and Barangays 1 and 4 with two each.

They were caught by personnel of Police Stations 2 and 7.

It was the second Sunday lockdown for the city of Bacolod wherein nobody even with home quarantine passes can go out of their houses during the day, as ordered by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

The measure is meant to contain the spread of COVID-19. Only individuals exempted during the Sunday lockdown are allowed to go out of their residences.

Despite the number of violators, Leonardia said that the sight of deserted streets and public spaces once more proved that people can set aside their differences and unite for the greater good.

Leonardia thanked the city officials, policemen, frontliners, and barangay officials who helped make the lockdown such a quiet but overwhelming success.

In the face of COVID-19 and uncertainty, we are responding with hope, courage, and unity, he said.
