BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) here will reactivate its monitoring team to strengthen efforts against mpox.
Dr. Ma. Carmela Gensoli, city health officer, stated that no mpox cases have been detected in Western Visayas.
However, she emphasized that the reactivation of the monitoring team is crucial to ensuring the city’s preparedness and proactive measures against the virus.
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus, a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier warned the public to remain vigilant following the detection of mpox cases in the country.
Gensoli mentioned that they aim to educate and inform the public about the risk factors associated with mpox.
“This is to make the public aware and vigilant,” she added.
She clarified that mpox is not airborne but can be contracted through contact with the skin. Gensoli advised the public to practice good hygiene, including regular handwashing and the use of alcohol-based disinfectants.
