BACOLOD CITY — Police arrested a 37-year-old man classified as a high-value drug suspect and seized approximately 100 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 680,000 during a buy-bust operation in Barangay 2, Bacolod City, late Saturday night, Nov. 7, 2026.
The operation was conducted around 11:35 p.m. in Purok Sigay by operatives of Police Station 2 of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), with support from the City Intelligence Unit.
Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Jad,” a 37-year-old single, unemployed man residing in Purok Boulevard, Barangay 13, Bacolod City.
According to the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), authorities launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports alleging that the suspect was involved in illegal drug distribution in Barangay 13 and neighboring communities.
Police Station 2 intelligence operatives conducted validation, surveillance, and casing activities to monitor the suspect’s movements and establish the basis for a possible law enforcement operation.
With the assistance of a confidential informant, investigators arranged a transaction between the suspect and an undercover police officer acting as a buyer.
The transaction took place at what police described as one of the suspect’s usual meeting places in Purok Sigay.
Authorities arrested the suspect after the alleged drug sale was completed and recovered approximately 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu.
Police placed the standard drug valuation of the confiscated substance at PHP 680,000, equivalent to PHP 6,800 per gram.
The seized substance was subjected to inventory and documentation procedures, although the police report did not indicate whether laboratory testing had confirmed its composition.
Following his arrest, the suspect was informed of his constitutional rights and the provisions of the Anti-Torture Act in a language he understood, according to PRO-NIR.
He remains detained at Police Station 2 while authorities prepare criminal complaints for alleged violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Section 5 penalizes the illegal sale, trading, distribution, and transportation of dangerous drugs, while Section 11 covers illegal possession of dangerous drugs.
Police Brig. Gen. Rudecindo L. Reales, PRO-NIR regional director, warned against involvement in illegal drug activities while reminding police personnel to respect human rights during law enforcement operations.
“Let this serve as a reminder that illegal drug activities carry consequences. We will ensure that every individual apprehended is dealt with in accordance with the law. At the same time, I remind our police personnel to uphold professionalism and respect for human rights in every operation,” Reales said.
The regional police command emphasized that its anti-illegal drug campaign aims not only to apprehend suspected offenders but also to protect families and communities from the harmful effects of prohibited substances.
PRO-NIR said its operations would continue to be guided by professionalism, fairness, and respect for the law under the Philippine National Police’s “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman” program.
The command also urged Negrenses to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities in preventing illegal drug activities in their communities.
The suspect remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
