TWO infants died in Iloilo and Negros Occidental under various circumstances.
A 6-month-old boy died while in the care of his father at Guimbal, Iloilo late Wednesday evening.
Reno Vales, 43, allegedly brought his son, who had been incessantly crying, at a seawall near their home in Barangay Pescadores around 11:15 p.m. of Wednesday.
Police Lieutenant Nelson Caro, Guimbal police chief, said the father played with the victim to calm the baby down.
He later placed the child on his chest, as he laid down on top of the seawall.
Not long enough, the father dozed off.
He was awakened by a barangay tanod who was doing foot patrol after the latter heard a child crying.
The father woke up and scooped the victim from the foot of the seawall and rushed him to Guimbal District Hospital.
But the infant was declared dead on arrival.
The father admitted that he drank liquor before the incident.
Meanwhile, a six-month old baby boy wrapped in manila paper was found dead at Hacienda Sta Maria, Barangay Zone 15, Talisay City, Negros Occidental Wednesday.
Police Major Jigger Gimeno, city police chief, said some civilians saw the baby at the roadside around 5:45 p.m., and reported the find to the police’s border control security assigned near the area.
The baby was probably left by an unidentified person early that day, Gimeno said.
The baby was brought to the City Health Office to check his condition but he was already dead. He will be buried at the city’s public cemetery.
Gimeno said the mother probably aborted her baby and abandoned it near the sugarcane field and a canal.
He said they cannot trace the persons responsible behind it since nobody saw any suspicious individuals at the area that day.
The area was also surrounded by sugarcane and far from houses, he added.
