Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Felipe M. Medalla together with four former central bank chiefs recently led the celebration of the BSP’s rich history as told in the book, “Cool Minds, Brave Hearts: The People of the Philippine Central Bank.”
Former Governors Benjamin E. Diokno, Amando M. Tetangco, Jr., Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., and Jaime C. Laya joined the celebration held at the BSP head office in Manila with author Roel Landingin on 02 September 2022.
“As the book showcases the BSP’s tapestry of trials and triumphs, we aim to bring into the consciousness of every Filipino our inspiring journey that shaped and sharpened the contours of the Philippine economy and financial system over the years,” said BSP Governor Medalla.
The National Book Development Board and the Manila Critics Circle awarded the publication with a National Book Award (Best Book on Professions) last July 2022.
Through personal essays from current and former BSP officials and comprehensive profiles of central bank governors, the book pays tribute to the institution’s storied past by retelling how the central monetary authority and financial system supervisor delivered on its mandates since its founding in 1949.
“This book is just scratching the surface of a mountain of rich material that is the stories of the people who work at the central bank,” said Landingin.
“Cool Minds, Brave Hearts: The People of the Philippine Central Bank” is available for purchase to the public. For inquires, contact the BSP Store through telephone no. (02) 5306-2241 or e-mail address bspstore@bsp.gov.ph.
