August 2026 Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examinations Results

In August 2026, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Mechanical Engineering released the results of the Mechanical Engineers, Professional Mechanical Engineers and Certified Plant Mechanics (CPM) Licensure Examinations.

One thousand three hundred sixty-two (1,362) out of 3,686, or 36.95%, passed the Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination. One thousand thirty-three (1,033) first-time takers passed out of 1,895, or 54.51%.

In Western Visayas, 100 out of 253, or 39.53%, passed. Fifty-eight (58) out of 112, or 51.79%, of the first-time takers passed. Fifty percent (50%) of first-time takers from CHED autonomous schools in Western Visayas passed. Likewise, 50% of first-time takers from CHED deregulated schools in Western Visayas passed. Meanwhile, 31 out of 52, or 59.62%, of first-time takers from state colleges and universities (SUCs) in Western Visayas passed.

In Region VI, or in schools on Panay and Guimaras islands, 64 out of 163, or 39.26%, passed. Forty-four (44) out of 83, or 53.01%, of first-time takers passed. Three (3) schools out of eight, or 37.5%, are high-performing, with passing percentages higher than the national passing average.

On the other hand, 109 out of 142, or 76.76%, passed the Certified Plant Mechanics (CPM) Computer-Based Licensure Examination (CBLE) given in 15 testing centers nationwide. Ninety-three (93) out of 118 first-time takers, or 78.81%, passed. Capiz State University (CAPSU) ranked No. 1 among schools with 10 or more examinees and at least an 80% passing percentage. Nelson Nacita Fines of Western Institute of Technology (WIT) and Cris Alianza of CAPSU ranked Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, among the successful examinees who garnered the 10 highest places in the examination.

Western Visayas produced 31 passers out of 35 takers, or an 88.50% passing percentage. Twenty-seven (27) first-time takers out of 31, or 87.1%, passed. All schools in Western Visayas are high-performing, with passing percentages higher than the national passing average. In Region VI, or in schools on Panay and Guimaras islands, 28 out of 32, or 87.5%, passed. Twenty-six (26) out of 30, or 86.67%, of the first-time takers passed. All six schools are high-performing, with passing percentages higher than the national passing average.

In the Professional Mechanical Engineer (PME) Upgrading Examination given in 13 testing centers nationwide, 574 passed. This is the largest number of PME passers in the last five years.

Finally, Republic Act 8495, otherwise known as “An Act Regulating the Practice of Mechanical Engineering in the Philippines,” categorized licensed professionals in the practice of mechanical engineering in the country as Certified Plant Mechanics (CPMs), Registered Mechanical Engineers (RMEs) and Professional Mechanical Engineers (PMEs). By inspection, there was no significant difference in first-time examinees’ performance in the MELE from CY 2025 to CY 2026. Fifty-five (55) out of 100 passed. There was a significant increase in first-time examinees’ performance in the CPM Licensure Examination over two years: five (5) out of 10 passed in 2025, and eight (8) out of 10 passed in 2026. Likewise, there was a significant increase in the performance of first-time examinees in the CPM Licensure Examination on Panay Island and in Western Visayas, with nine (9) out of 10 passing. There was a significant increase in the number of PME passers in the last two years.

Therefore, the low performance of first-time examinees in the MELE indicates a need to revise the 2017 BS Mechanical Engineering curriculum. There is also a need for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and PRC to update the board examination Table of Specifications (TOS).
