ASU-Kalibo student tops Aklan statistics quiz

KALIBO, Aklan — Aklan State University-Kalibo Campus student Alejandro Noel C. Casidsid won first place in the Philippine Statistics Quiz provincial eliminations held Sept. 29 at CityMall Kalibo.
Casidsid, a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering student, bested 26 other contestants from colleges and universities across Aklan after earning the highest overall score in three rounds.
He competed under the guidance of his coach, Engineer Joel I. Molas.
Casidsid received a certificate of recognition, PHP 5,000 cash prize, a medal and a special token from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Kent Reniel T. Marcelo of Aklan State University-New Washington Campus placed second, while Bea Nicole I. Mercado of Aklan Catholic College finished third.
Marcelo, a Bachelor of Science in Criminology student, received PHP 3,000, while Mercado, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science student, received PHP 2,000.
Both also received medals, certificates of recognition and special tokens from the PSA.
The three winners will represent Aklan in the regional finals in Iloilo City on Oct. 14.
Serving on the board of adjudicators were Dr. Mikko Jan A. Lopez, senior education program specialist and division research and innovation coordinator of the Department of Education-Aklan; Dr. Peter S. Mangilog, officer-in-charge chief statistical specialist of PSA-Aklan; and Dione Ann Diane F. Tapican, statistical analyst of PSA-Aklan.
The Philippine Statistics Quiz is an annual competition aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of statistics among college students and encouraging greater appreciation of statistical information in everyday life and informed decision-making.
Other participating schools were Aklan State University-Banga Campus, Aklan State University-Ibajay Campus, Batan College, Balete Community College, Saint Gabriel College and Altavas College.
