In celebration of National Lung Month and National Asthma Week 2025, the Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP) – Iloilo Chapter conducted an asthma awareness campaign for Grade 6 pupils of Judith Lazarraga Memorial Elementary School in Brgy. Tabuc Suba, Jaro, Iloilo City.
This year’s theme, “Healthy Lungs, Healthy Filipinos: TB ay Labanan, Buhay ay Ingatan,” underscored the importance of respiratory health, especially among the youth.
The event featured a series of educational lectures delivered by esteemed pulmonologists from Iloilo City.
Dr. Rollin Tabuena gave an insightful talk on the overview of asthma.
Dr. Maria Theresa Crisanta Anayan-Lim discussed common myths and facts about the condition.
Dr. Fel Angelie Colon focused on the dangers of smoking and vaping, especially among young people.
The program was organized by Ms. Victoria Salazar, a dedicated teacher from the host school.
The school principal, Ms. Mary Ann Palermo, together with the faculty, warmly welcomed the speakers and guests.
Adding support to the advocacy, the Rotary Club of Iloilo South, headed by its president Dr. Elsie Locsin, attended the event and generously provided snacks for the pupils and guests.
The event also received strong backing from Asclepius Drugstore, Med Lab and Allied Services, led by its managing director, Dr. Tabuena, who also served as a guest speaker.
The pupils were highly engaged during the lectures, eagerly participating and sharing personal experiences related to asthma.
The event concluded with heartfelt remarks from Dr. Tabuena, who thanked the school administration for the opportunity to educate students on such a critical health issue.
He emphasized the importance of preventive education, noting, “By equipping our young learners with the right knowledge, we are guiding them to lead healthier, more productive lives.”
