Asphalt road seen to facilitate convenient, affordable transport system in Aklan

Convenient, faster and less costly travel along Aklan East Road, specifically in the towns of Kalibo and Banga, await motorists and the general public with the road improvement undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Aklan District Engineering Office.

The ₱81.1-million project involves the asphalt overlaying of the 4-lane road from Brgy. Mabini to Estancia in Kalibo, and 2-lane road in Brgy. Tabayon and Brgy. Libas in Banga. Thermoplastic pavement markings will also be provided for the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the improvement of the 14.86-kilometer road from Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) to asphalt overlay will provide smooth traffic flow and facilitate a convenient transportation system.

“The asphalt road will enhance the road condition and will facilitate a more convenient, faster and safer travel among our motorists and the traveling public,” Bueno said.

“With the asphalt road, our motorists will have less costly transportation. The smoother the pavement means less fuel consumption, which is beneficial for our motorists. Asphalt paved road also reduces the “wear-and-tear” of vehicles, benefiting our road users, especially those who are in the public transport sector, Bueno added.

Meantime, OIC-District Engineer Gener J. Abergas said the project will also boost Aklan’s tourism industry by providing access to popular tourist attractions and anticipated festivals.

“With the completion of this pavement, the public would benefit from having this accessible route on their way to Aklan’s famous tourist destinations and much-awaited festivals like Ati-Atihan,” said Engr. Abergas. (DPWH-6)
