BACOLOD City – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) allegedly strafed the detachment of Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion (IB) at Barangay Lina-on, Cauayan, Negros Occidental over the weekend.
According to the police, an undetermined number of armed men opened fire at the military detachment around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
A fire fight followed and lasted for about 20 minutes. No casualties were reported.
Police said the rebels were probably provoking the military to engage in a gun battle so that they can stage ambushes when the troopers respond.
The detachment has received threats recently based on their assessment that is why they are on defensive mode.
