BACOLOD CITY – A 49-year-old man was injured by a gunshot after he allegedly tried to grab a policeman’s firearm during a warrant service operation in Purok Langis, Barangay Banago here on Friday morning.
Police Major Rondyl Tapang, head of Police Station 3, said the suspect, identified only as “Joe,” sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his face and is now under hospital arrest for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of dangerous drugs.
According to Tapang, police operatives spotted eight individuals allegedly engaging in a drug transaction in plain view at the scene.
Upon noticing the approaching officers, Joe reportedly tried to discard an item by throwing it away.
One of the policemen noticed a firearm tucked into Joe’s waist and attempted to disarm him.
Joe allegedly resisted and tried to seize the officer’s service weapon, which accidentally discharged.
The other individuals fled, leaving behind 10 sachets of suspected shabu and cash scattered at the scene, Tapang added.
Police arrested a 34-year-old man and a minor during the operation, though the subject of the arrest warrant escaped.
Recovered from the area were six grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 40,800 and various drug paraphernalia.
Tapang said the revolver seized from Joe will be subjected to forensic examination.
