Two Philippine Army soldiers were wounded following an encounter between members of the 61st Infantry Battalion and suspected New People’s Army (NPA) morning of Jan. 17 at Tubungan, Iloilo.
The 301st Infantry Brigade has temporarily withheld the names of the wounded soldiers.
According to Brigadier General Michael Samson, 301st IB commander, the encounter
happened around 10:20 a.m. on Jan. 17 at the hinterland village of Igpaho, Tubungan.
Members of the 61st IB encountered around 15 rebels from the Southern Front of the NPA’s
Komigwng Rehiyon-Panay led by Nahum Camariosa alias Bebong.
The firefight lasted for about 12 minutes.
Samson said it’s highly possible that the local terrorists also had fatalities of their own based on the evidence gathered at the encounter site.
Pursuit operations are still going on, as of this writing.
