Ara Galang sparks Farm Fresh comeback in Negros return
Ara Galang may no longer receive the extended playing time she once did, but the former De La Salle University star remains a major attraction wherever the PVL On Tour Showdown takes her.
That popularity was evident on Saturday night, Aug. 22, when Galang drew some of the loudest cheers from a packed Victorias City Coliseum in Negros Occidental.
Galang rewarded the home crowd by helping Farm Fresh rally past Capital1, 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12, 15-10.
The two-hour, 28-minute encounter became the PVL On Tour’s first five-setter.
The reception from the Negrense crowd reminded Galang of her college years, when she frequently competed in the province during tournaments such as the University Games.
“Nakaka-miss kasi college madalas kami maglaro dito, Unigames, so nakaka-miss yung ganyang crowd talaga. Nakakatuwa siyempre na maraming sumusuporta sa akin and sa team ng Farm Fresh. Very thankful ako,” said the 31-year-old outside spiker from Pampanga.
Galang provided the spark the Foxies needed after the Solar Spikers secured a 2-1 advantage in sets.
She finished with 14 points built on eight attacks, three blocks and three aces.
The veteran made her biggest impact in the fourth set, producing multiple aces, crucial blocks and sharp attacks.
Her contributions allowed Farm Fresh to wrestle away the momentum and force a deciding fifth frame.
“Siguro yung kumpiyansa lang din pagpasok, yung pag-jell sa team. Kasi nga kailangan ready lang ako kahit kailan ako ipasok, kung kailangan kong mag-step up. Basta pilit ko lang gagawin yung best ko para maka-contribute ako ng positive sa team,” said Galang, who has embraced her role off the bench.
Galang’s performance showed that her influence remains significant whenever Farm Fresh calls her number.
Trisha Tubu again led the Foxies’ offense with 24 points.
Ces Molina contributed 16 points, 17 excellent receptions and 11 excellent digs.
With the PVL On Tour Showdown behind them, Galang and the Foxies will turn their attention to the PVL Invitational Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The tournament will run from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8.
Farm Fresh will compete against local teams Creamline, defending champion PLDT and Nxled.
The Foxies will also face Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City and Thailand’s EST Cola.
The six teams will play a single-round-robin tournament, with the top two advancing to a winner-take-all championship match, according to the PVL.
