Antique Rep. AA Legarda says sister Loren eager to return
By Jennifer P. Rendon

ILOILO CITY — Sen. Loren Legarda is not in hiding and is eager to return to the Philippines, according to her brother, Antique Rep. Antonio Agapito “AA” Legarda Jr.
The lawmaker made the statement when asked about his sister’s condition and continued stay abroad for medical treatment.
Despite her health concerns, AA Legarda said the senator remains in good spirits.
“She’s having health issues kaya talagang nagpapagamot sa ibang bansa,” he said.
He explained that his sister is still undergoing medical examinations before she can return home.
“Meron pang ibang laboratory tests that have to be done. Meron pang check and she has to wait for that,” he said, adding that Loren wants “to comeback already and serve the Filipino nation.”
AA Legarda said the senator is being cared for by her son, Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Antonio Leviste.
He added that he maintains regular communication with his sister and keeps her informed about developments in Antique.
“But we have constant communication. Nangungumusta nga sya at I tell her all the events that we have,” he said.
The congressman said Loren was elated upon learning that she continued to enjoy the support and trust of the province’s mayors.
“Doon sya siguro nabuhayan and I want to ask everyone to let’s supports her in one way or another through prayers which she needs most right now,” he said.
AA Legarda expressed hope that his sister would overcome her present difficulties.
He said his immediate concern is for Loren to “weather this storm.”
“At alam naman natin na may katapusan lahat ng ito and I hope the truth will prevail,” he said.
Loren has reportedly been staying in France since leaving the Philippines on Aug. 2, 2026, to seek treatment for a long-standing lung condition.
She has repeatedly extended her official medical leave from the Senate while undergoing treatment abroad.
Her absence comes amid an ongoing Office of the Ombudsman investigation into solar energy projects involving the senator and her son, Rep. Leandro Leviste.
The investigation remains separate from the medical reasons cited for her continued stay overseas.
