Antique guv suspends classes from Nov 2 to 7

Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao suspended classes in the province from Nov 2 to 7, 2022 following the devastation caused by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (International name: Nalgae).

Cadiao on Tuesday issued Executive Order No. 234 “Declaring Suspension of Face-to-Face Classes at All Levels both in Public and Private Schools in the Province of Antique.”

The order was based on the recommendation of Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Superintendent Feliza Bering and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Broderick Train.

The order also cited the continuing inclement weather brought about by Tropical Storm Paeng and the approaching Tropical Depression “Queenie. Thus, “the need to ensure the safety and welfare of our constituents.”

The order also noted that some schools in Antique serve as temporary evacuation sites for the affected families.

To note, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-6 (RDRRMC-6) reported that Paeng has brought havoc to 221 barangays in the 13 municipalities of Antique affecting around 61,012 affected families (216,561 persons).

The storm also damaged 1,086 houses and destroyed 104 others.

Latest report from the RDRRMC-6’s Management of Dead and Missing indicated that Antique province logged the most number of deaths in Western Visayas at 11.

It has also recorded the most number of missing persons at six.
