Three interns under the Department of Labor and Employment’s Government Internship Program in Antique placed among the topnotchers in the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Teachers.
Their assignments in schools and exposure to the education system helped prepare them for the board examination.
Salvacion S. Sanquilos ranked sixth after serving as an intern at Nagsubuan Elementary School.
Jireh Grace P. dela Peña ranked seventh after performing her duties at San Antonio Elementary School.
Christine Faith O. Heraldo, who was assigned to Sebaste High School, passed with flying colors and ranked ninth.
During a simple recognition program at the DOLE Regional Office 6 Antique Field Office, the topnotchers thanked the Marcos administration and DOLE for the GIP, which allowed them to apply what they learned while earning income.
They said the stipends they received as GIP interns helped pay for their review center fees and transportation expenses during their review period.
The interns served under the program from September to December 2025.
The DOLE-GIP provides three to six months of internship opportunities for young workers, particularly those seeking experience in public service.
“Thank you to DOLE GIP kay nabaydan ko ang akun tuition sa akun review center, may allowance ako kag may pang transport (Thank you DOLE-GIP, through the program, I have paid my tuition at the review center and had enough for allowance and for my transportation expenses),” Sanquilos said.
Sanquilos said her GIP experience also paved the way for better employment because she was later hired at the school where she had been assigned.
“because of DOLE GIP, I was absorbed as an Administrative Support Staff sa Nagsubuan Elementary School where I was assigned and I can feel that my family’s economic status is gradually levelling up,’’ she added.
“Small wins but we are extremely grateful for the opportunity especially for us, fresh graduate who don’t have enough experience. May you continue to implement this program to help other youth as it helped me,” Sanquilos said.
Dela Peña said the GIP helped her financially and professionally.
“This opportunity helped me become the better version of myself not just personally but also professionally. To DOLE, the GIP Program truly helps a lot of dreamers like me in pursuing our dreams.” she said.
Heraldo encouraged fellow youth to pursue their dreams despite financial challenges.
“To the youth, hindi magmayha nga pigado kita. Hindi niyo pagpinsara nga hindi natun kaya. Ang support nga nabaton naton sa gobyerno pareho kang GIP, gamiton naton ka insakto and don’t take it for granted. (For the youth, don’t be ashamed if we are poor. Don’t not think that we cannot do it. We should make the most out of the support from the government like the GIP, use it properly and don’t take it for granted),” Heraldo said.
DOLE Regional Office 6, led by Regional Director Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr., shares in the success of the interns as it continues to empower youth, promote decent employment opportunities, and contribute to the development of a skilled and competitive Filipino workforce.
The department said the GIP is more than a temporary employment opportunity.
It is a platform that equips young people with discipline, work ethic, and valuable exposure to government service, helping them become competent and socially responsible professionals.
The success of the former GIP interns reflects the meaningful impact of the Government Internship Program in helping young Filipinos gain practical work experience while preparing for their chosen professions.
