Antique Benefits from P5-M TUPAD Labor Day Initiative

In commemoration of the 122nd Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) distributed a Php5-million Certificate of Commitment for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program across 18 municipalities in Antique, aiming to aid over 16,000 locals.

The distribution, taking place on March 14-15, sets the stage for May 1st payments to the beneficiaries.

Each will receive Php 4,800 for 10 days of community service tasks such as gardening, tree planting, and de-clogging sewage canals that commenced this month.

“This program honors our Filipino workers and the informal sector, particularly those impacted by the El Niño phenomenon,” said Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr., DOLE Regional Director.

The TUPAD program, seen as a crucial support for informal workers, will enable 907 workers from each municipality to earn income during a period of severe drought.

DOLE RO 6’s Antique Field Office has expedited the process with simultaneous orientations, contract signings, and distribution of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to safeguard beneficiaries.

The initiative targets farmers, farm workers, food vendors, drivers, and fisherfolk who live below the poverty line. While the TUPAD program offers short-term employment, it plays a vital role in helping recipients support their families.

Participants in the program are also covered by GSIS Group Premium Accident Insurance and provided with PPE to ensure their safety during their service.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the DOLE and the offices of Sen. Loren B. Legarda and Lone District Representative AA Legarda.
