BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government’s anti-swine fever task force has set up a checkpoint in Kabankalan City.
Provincial Veterinary Officer Dr. Renante Decena said the checkpoint is aimed at preventing the entry of hogs contaminated with the African swine fever (ASF).
Aside from the provincial task force, Decena said the city government of Kabankalan also formed its own anti-swine fever task force which will augment their checkpoint personnel.
Last week, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson issued an executive order implementing a 90-day entry ban for pork products coming from Luzon.
Lacson also assured that local pork is clean and free of ASF. But movement of hogs in the province must still be covered by permits.
“All local government units now are vigilant and requiring permits for pork and processed products is understandable,” the governor added.
