BACOLOD City – The Guihulngan City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (CT-ELCAC) in Negros Oriental has been receiving more surrenderers from the New People’s Army (NPA).
This, after another alleged NPA member surrendered to the troopers of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Batallion (IB) in Isabela, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.
The rebel returnee was an alleged active member of Squad 2, Sandatahang Yunit Pang Propaganda (SYP) Platoon of Central Negros 1 Front (CN1), Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (CN1-KR-NCBS), according to the Army.
The former rebel decided to return to the folds of the law after experiencing difficulties with the armed struggle, the Army said.
Upon his surrender to the authorities, he also turned over an M16 rifle with a magazine loaded with 29 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition.
It was his way to fully affirm his serious intention to surrender to the task force, the Army said.
Meanwhile, Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) commended the efforts of the task force headed by Guihulngan City Mayor Carlo Jorge Reyes, along with the joint teams of 62nd IB, Regional Mobile Force Batallion (RMFB)-7, and Guihulngan City Police Station.
