ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Education Secretary Sonny Angara led the groundbreaking of the two-story Schools Division Office building in Barangay Banica here on Monday, April 20.
“This new building will enable and inspire you to work even harder for our learners,” Angara said, highlighting the government’s continued investment in education infrastructure.
The project is part of the Department of Education’s push to improve access to quality and equitable education through expanded classrooms, offices and support facilities nationwide.
DepEd said better facilities help address resource gaps and improve the efficiency of education services.
Joining Angara at the groundbreaking were Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera and Regional Director Cristito A. Eco, underscoring the agency leadership’s support for strengthening local education systems.
The new facility is expected to serve as the central hub of the Roxas City Schools Division Office and provide a more efficient workspace for personnel.
Angara said improved facilities help enhance coordination, planning and program implementation.
Roxas City Division personnel, led by officer-in-charge Schools Division Superintendent Adonis A. Mosquera, welcomed the initiative and cited its long-term impact on administrative operations and support for schools.
The education secretary also served as keynote speaker during the opening of the National Festival of Talents on Sunday afternoon, April 19.
DepEd is holding this year’s National Festival of Talents in Roxas City, with student delegates from across the country competing in technical-vocational, artistic and academic events.
The opening ceremony was held at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center following a grand parade.
The Roxas City government, through Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, welcomed delegations from different parts of the country.
Dadivas said the event is not only an activity for the education sector, but also an opportunity to showcase Roxas City and the hospitality of Capiznons.
He also called for cooperation from all sectors to ensure a successful hosting.
The National Festival of Talents is an annual DepEd event that provides a platform for basic education learners to showcase skills in technical-vocational-livelihood competitions, arts performances, and academic contests.
This year’s festival carries the theme “Embracing Change, Redefining Excellence.”
Delegates were billeted in different schools in Roxas City, with security provided by the Capiz Police Provincial Office.
