PASAY CITY – Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, used their credit cards to spend nearly PHP 600,000 in two separate visits to Nike stores in Davao City and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to a veteran forensic financial analyst who examined the couple’s records.
Atty. Alexander Cabrera flagged the purchases in his testimony before the Senate impeachment court on Friday, saying they were among the “unusual or questionable banking behaviors” he saw when the prosecution asked him to analyze the financial records of Duterte and Carpio.
“In one day po, mayroon pong purchase from Nike SM Davao po. Yung dalawang transaction po na yun ay totaling more than P300,000 po,” Cabrera said.
He added, “[May] purchase naman po from Nike Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur. Isang araw din po na purchase, one transaction worth P256,882.50.”
Aside from Nike products, Cabrera said the couple’s transactions show they used their credit card to pay a hefty bill incurred in just one visit to a restaurant in Tokyo, Japan.
“Yung amount po ay P205,000 na mukha pong pinambayad po sa isang restaurant po na isang transaction lang po. Na maaari pong dinner po sa Ginza Inakaya, Tokyo, Japan,” Cabrera said.
The prosecution presented Cabrera to support allegations that Duterte has undeclared assets and unexplained wealth since she became vice president in 2022.
Duterte assumed the vice presidency on June 30, 2022.
Cabrera also told the court that the couple’s bank accounts allegedly paid more than PHP 11.35 million to Duterte’s family dentist.
During questioning by House prosecution panel member Rep. Chel Diokno, Cabrera was asked to identify “Lourdes Libosada,” who reportedly received millions of pesos from the couple.
Cabrera cited the disbursements to Libosada as part of what his report categorized as “certain banking behaviors that may warrant further review and investigation.”
“Ms. Lourdes Libosada is the partner of Atty. Mans Carpio in his business, Cale88,” Cabrera said. “And their ownership in Cale88 is 47.5%.”
Cale88 is a banana chips manufacturing firm owned by Carpio that allegedly received millions from various international sources, including Chinese state-owned firms and a Ukrainian company that has been charged with money laundering.
Cabrera further testified regarding Libosada, saying, “Lourdes Libosada is also the family dentist, or at least the dentist of VP Sara.”
When Diokno asked for the basis of the claim, Cabrera said, “We found a Facebook post from the Libosada Clinic where Dr. Libosada and VP Sara were together.”
The prosecution then presented to the court a photograph showing Libosada alongside Duterte at her clinic, which according to Google is located in Davao City.
Disclosing the total disbursements made to the dentist, Cabrera said, “The total amount of checks paid to Ms. Lourdes Libosada is P11.35 million, which I believe is not payment for dental fillings.”
According to the prosecution, the transactions form part of a broader finding that Duterte and Carpio accumulated nearly PHP 1 billion in undeclared assets and unexplained wealth, based on the forensic analysis Cabrera presented.
Cabrera submitted to the impeachment court an aggregate computed total of PHP 817,874,867 covering 2022 through 2025, which encompasses allegedly undeclared cash, personal and real properties, and computed undeclared income of the couple as well as of several corporate entities.
The highest annual figure was recorded in 2024 at PHP 264,217,123, followed by PHP 195,692,505 in 2025, PHP 190,628,012 in 2022, and PHP 167,337,227 in 2023.
In cash alone, the combined amount identified as undeclared over the four-year period reached PHP 207,696,933, comprising PHP 60,214,776 in 2022, PHP 80,701,151 in 2023, PHP 23,169,077 in 2024, and PHP 43,611,929 in 2025.
Beyond cash, Cabrera identified PHP 143,497,177 in allegedly undeclared other personal and real properties, net of deductions, including PHP 76,147,730 in 2022, PHP 3,934,560 in 2023, PHP 52,016,994 in 2024, and PHP 11,397,893 in 2025.
Cabrera’s examination also calculated PHP 111,852,349 in allegedly undeclared combined income of the couple, broken down as PHP 50,474,511 in 2022, PHP 12,198,235 in 2023, PHP 28,030,203 in 2024, and PHP 21,149,400 in 2025.
The analysis likewise highlighted substantial amounts for the corporate entities Cale88, Metro City Chow, and GenCorp Industries.
For Cale88 and Metro City Chow, the computed undeclared income totaled PHP 142,198,690, growing from PHP 3,790,995 in 2022 to PHP 14,788,989 in 2023, rising to PHP 86,944,369 in 2024, and falling to PHP 36,674,337 in 2025.
For GenCorp Industries, computed undeclared income reached PHP 212,629,718 over three years, with PHP 55,714,292 in 2023, PHP 74,056,480 in 2024, and PHP 82,858,946 in 2025, and no amount recorded under this category for 2022.
Cabrera, who presented the findings, is a lawyer and certified public accountant with more than three decades of professional experience in accounting, taxation, law, and financial forensics.
